What Belongs to Us

                                 While waiting
                                 for a creaking
                                 elevator to arrive,
                                 two women discuss
                                 a lost earring.
                                 Their feet tap.
                                 Their eyes shift.
                                 Their voices ache.
               Their elev                                          ator opens.
                                 Their concerns linger.
