Read it several times and I keep coming back to “Forgetting the drowned” — the title and the rest of the lines are playful except for it. It’s a good ending.
I love the modern metaphysical take on the brief and on the subject itself, and for me, trickles turn into nothing when they finally reach the very bottom, which is the perfect metaphor.
What makes this haiku perfect is that when I read it, I can actually see the three layers of water trickling down (first line as the drops of water on the surface, second line as a sheet of paper where its trickling through, and the third where there’s a whole glass of water already filled nearly to the brim). Awesome job.
very smart observation here! I like the onomatopoeia sounds and mental link from trickle to economy. It’s a great jungle gym of monkey bars.
