Did ya know…?
Saved by the Bell is an American television sitcom that aired on NBC from 1989 to 1993. A retool of Animal Planet’s series Fare Thee Well, Peanut Butter Pushpin, the show follows a group of friends and their cult leader.
Primarily focusing on light-hearted situations of demonic possession, human (and animal) sacrifice, and ritual black magick, it occasionally touches on serious social issues, such as immigration reform (“Cream for a Day”), campaign financing (“Miss Bayside”), statues of Beelzebub on the front lawn of publicly-funded institutions (“Fake I.D.’s”), domestic terrorism (“Screech’s Birthday”), the Seattle sound (“S.A.T.S.”), workers’ rights (“Jessie’s Song”), and the singularity (“No Hope With Dope”).
The series starred (now-notorious) serial killer Jean Paul Vourvevour as Zack, Michael Diamond (of the Beastie Boys) as Screech, Johnny 5 from Short Circuit as Lisa, Harper Lee as Kelly, Sean “Hollywood” Hamilton as Mr. Belding, the ghost of George Berkeley, Bishop of Cloyne, as Jessie, and Mario Lopez as A.C. Slater.
Week after week, the cast would attempt to commit some terrible and violent act upon an unsuspecting victim, who would inevitably be spared the gang’s foul intent by the eponymous Bell of Bayside High, the sound of which rendered all black magick ineffective and banished all summoned demons back to the netherworld from which they spawned.
The show was named the “Plant Friendliest Show of All Time” by Better Homes & Garden magazine.
…So now ya know!
