I don’t know how many of you saw this film in the theater, but I sure wish I had. Outside of it being about 20 minutes too long – what a swell flick. Great music (I’ve had April March stuck in my head all week), great action, fun dialogue.

The numbers quoted in the article are indeed staggering, not just budgetary, but membership numbers. Who said god is dead? Nietzsche and Trent…your mouths are duly stuffed with feets. God ain’t dead. He’s living phat in JOCO. I’m not posting the article to debate the merits/lack of merits for megachurches…just find it interesting to see the numbers laid out before me.

In order: Badass flick, yes, but I preferred “Planet Terror.” Rodriguez just gets better and better. And hopefully the DVD had all the mock trailers on it as well. Rob Zombies’ “Werewolf Women of the SS” and Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving” were true to the genre that is grindhouse.
As for the article on First Family, that hits close to home. Don’t know if you caught it, but my mom’s quoted in the article. My parents attended FFC a couple years ago after being duped into starting a Jerusalem ministry that never went anywhere, much like most of Johnston’s promises. Let’s just say this financial story is the tip of the iceberg. My parents left after about 6 months, and regret it to this day. Jerry Johnston is worse than Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggert combined, and I say that with no hyperbole.

see, i felt just the opposite with regards to grindhouse. planet terror i thought pedestrian and uninteresting (and overlong as well) although the peg-leg machine gun was awewome. the direction was fine but the story wasn’t original or even that fitting of a tribute to 70s schlock, too glossy even through the corrupted film stock filter.
man, i totally missed your mom getting quoted. you should definitely write about what went down.

Totally agree about the soundtrack to Death Proof mate. F**king brilliant. And although the dialogue was intriguing as we’ve grown to expect from Tarantino, I felt the character development was weak. Let’s face it, he set the bar high in Pulp Fiction. And he had some big names on the bill, and maybe that helped. But while watching Death Proof, I felt like that fag on Oprah saying “He’s just not that into you.” I just wasn’t into it.
Haven’t seen Planet Terror yet – waiting for Netflix to free up some copies.
